McPherson Rane LLP was originally founded by Edwin F. McPherson as McPherson & Associates in 1991, primarily as an entertainment and business litigation firm. Tracy B. Rane joined the firm in 2005, and became a partner of the firm in 2008.  Mr. McPherson and Ms. Rane have brought to the firm a diverse background in virtually all phases of civil litigation, having handled a broad range of legal matters for clients in and outside of the entertainment and sports industries. Although still a very small firm, McPherson Rane LLP offers the benefit of large firm experience, along with a level of personal contact that can only be achieved by a small firm.

The firm has represented numerous film, television and stage actors, professional athletes, screenwriters, directors, producers, stunt professionals, stunt coordinators, authors, recording artists, musicians, songwriters, composers, record producers and engineers, personal managers, talent agents, business managers, attorneys, record companies, independent production companies, and major studios.

Although McPherson Rane LLP has litigated numerous cases from the filing of the complaint through trial, arbitration, or settlement, the firm prides itself on its emphasis on preventative counseling, which is designed primarily to minimize the risk of litigation. To the extent that litigation ultimately becomes necessary, the firm's philosophy is to represent the client aggressively, but efficiently, while often utilizing creative forms of mediation, in an effort to keep litigation costs to a minimum.
